After graduating from high school, Walton attended the University of Missouri. He studied business and economics. After graduating from college, Walton worked as a sales trainee for J.C. Penney. He quickly rose through the ranks and became a store manager.

Founding Walmart

In 1962, Walton opened his first Walmart store in Rogers, Arkansas. The store was a success from the start. Walton's philosophy was to offer low prices and excellent customer service. He also believed in giving his employees a stake in the company. This helped to create a loyal and motivated workforce.

Walmart quickly grew into a regional chain. In 1972, Walton took the company public. This gave Walmart the capital it needed to expand nationally. By the early 1980s, Walmart was the largest retailer in the United States.

Innovation and Expansion

Walton was always looking for ways to improve Walmart. He introduced a number of innovations, including the use of barcodes and self-checkout kiosks. He also expanded Walmart's product line to include a wide range of items, from groceries to electronics.

In the 1990s, Walmart began to expand internationally. The company opened stores in Canada, Mexico, and the United Kingdom. Walmart also acquired a number of other retailers, including Sam's Club and Asda.

Legacy

Sam Walton died in 1992. By that time, Walmart had become the world's largest retailer. Walton's legacy is one of innovation, hard work, and determination. He built Walmart from a small-town store into a global powerhouse.

Walmart has been criticized for its low wages and its impact on small businesses. However, there is no doubt that Walton's company has had a profound impact on the American economy. Walmart has made it possible for millions of Americans to save money on their everyday purchases.

Sam Walton was a true American success story. He built Walmart from scratch into the world's largest retailer. Along the way, he revolutionized the retail industry and created a lasting legacy. Walton's story is an inspiration to anyone who wants to achieve great things.
