Meet The Principal: My Journey Beyond The Curriculum
My Journey as a Principal
I began my career as a teacher in an urban elementary school. I quickly realized that I loved working with children and helping them to learn and grow. After a few years of teaching, I decided to go back to school to get my principal's certification. I was fortunate to get my first principalship at a small rural elementary school. I was the only administrator at the school, so I was responsible for everything from kurikulum to discipline to budgeting. It was a challenging job, but I loved it. I got to know my students and their families well, and I was able to make a real difference in their lives. After five years at the elementary school, I was offered the principalship at a larger middle school. This was a much more complex job, but I was excited for the challenge. I quickly learned that the middle school years are a time of great change and growth for students. I also learned that it is important to have a strong team of teachers and staff to support students during this time. I have now been the principal of the middle school for five years. I am proud of the progress that we have made during that time. We have improved student achievement, increased parent involvement, and created a positive and supportive school culture. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as a principal. It is a challenging and rewarding job, and I am committed to making a difference in the lives of my students.
The Importance of Going Beyond the Curriculum
In my experience, the most effective principals are the ones who are willing to go beyond the curriculum. This means getting to know your students and their families, building relationships with your staff, and being involved in the community. When you go beyond the curriculum, you create a positive and supportive school culture. This is a culture where students feel safe and respected, and where they are challenged to learn and grow. There are many ways to go beyond the curriculum. Here are a few examples:
- Get to know your students. This means more than just learning their names. Take the time to talk to your students about their interests, their goals, and their challenges. Build relationships with them so that they know that you care about them.
- Build relationships with your staff. Your staff is your most important asset. Make sure that you are communicating with them regularly and that you are providing them with the support that they need. Create a positive and collaborative work environment where everyone feels valued.
- Be involved in the community. Get to know the parents of your students. Attend community events. Volunteer your time. By being involved in the community, you can build relationships and create a sense of ownership in the school.
Going beyond the curriculum takes time and effort, but it is worth it. When you create a positive and supportive school culture, you create a place where students can learn and grow. You also create a place where staff members are happy to work and where parents are proud to send their children.

This is a culture where students feel safe and respected, and where they are challenged to learn and grow. By going beyond the curriculum, you can create a school culture that is welcoming, inclusive, and inspiring. I encourage all principals to get to know their students, build relationships with their staff, and be involved in the community. By ng so, you can make a real difference in the lives of your students.
