Murad was just 16 years old when she was captured by ISIS fighters in 2014. She was taken to Mosul, where she was held as a slave for three months. During that time, she was repeatedly raped, beaten, and tortured.

Murad's story is a harrowing tale of survival and courage. She endured unspeakable horrors, but she never gave up hope. She eventually escaped from ISIS and made her way to safety.

Today, Murad is a vocal advocate for the rights of women and girls who have been affected by violence. She has spoken out about her experiences at the United Nations and other international forums. Her story has helped to raise awareness of the plight of women and girls in conflict zones.

Nadia Murad's Story

Nadia Murad was born in the village of Kocho in northern Iraq. She was a member of the Yazidi religious minority. In August 2014, ISIS fighters attacked Kocho and killed hundreds of Yazidi men and boys. The women and girls were taken as slaves.

Murad was taken to Mosul, where she was sold to a fighter named Abu Bakr. She was forced to live in a house with other Yazidi women and girls. They were all subjected to horrific abuse.

Murad was repeatedly raped and beaten. She was also forced to watch as other women and girls were tortured and killed. She lived in constant fear for her life.

Despite the horrors she endured, Murad never gave up hope. She knew that she had to escape. One day, she managed to sneak out of the house and run away.

Murad made her way to a refugee camp in northern Iraq. She was eventually able to come to the United States, where she now lives in Chicago.
