Musicians

Garden & Gun has a long history of featuring musicians in its pages. From country music legends like Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson to rock and roll icons like Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty, Garden & Gun has covered the full spectrum of American music. In recent years, the magazine has also featured up-and-coming artists like Sturgill Simpson and Margo Price.

One of our favorite musician stories is a profile of the late singer-songwriter Townes Van Zandt. Van Zandt was a troubled artist who struggled with addiction and depression, but his music was some of the most beautiful and haunting ever written. In a 2004 article, Garden & Gun writer John Jeremiah Sullivan explored Van Zandt's life and legacy, and the result is a moving and unforgettable portrait of a true American icon.

Chefs

Garden & Gun also has a strong tradition of featuring chefs in its pages. The magazine has covered some of the most celebrated chefs in the world, including James Beard Award winners like Sean Brock and Hugh Acheson. Garden & Gun has also featured up-and-coming chefs who are making a name for themselves in the culinary world.

One of our favorite chef stories is a profile of the late chef Anthony Bourdain. Bourdain was a culinary adventurer who traveled the world in search of great food and drink. He was also a gifted writer and storyteller, and his books and television shows inspired a new generation of food lovers. In a 2017 article, Garden & Gun writer David Alan Grier explored Bourdain's life and legacy, and the result is a fascinating and insightful look at one of the most influential figures in the culinary world.

Writers

Garden & Gun has always been a magazine for writers, and the magazine has featured some of the most talented writers in the South and beyond. From Pulitzer Prize winners like Cormac McCarthy and Alice Walker to National Book Award winners like Rick Bragg and Jesmyn Ward, Garden & Gun has published some of the most important literary voices of our time.

One of our favorite writer stories is a profile of the late writer Harper Lee. Lee was the author of the classic novel "To Kill a Mockingbird," which is considered one of the greatest American novels ever written. In a 2015 article, Garden & Gun writer John Jeremiah Sullivan explored Lee's life and legacy, and the result is a fascinating and insightful look at one of the most important writers of the 20th century.

Filmmakers

Garden & Gun has also featured some of the most important filmmakers of our time. From Oscar winners like Barry Jenkins and Alfonso Cuarón to independent filmmakers like Kelly Reichardt and Ava DuVernay, Garden & Gun has covered the full spectrum of American cinema.

One of our favorite filmmaker stories is a profile of the late filmmaker Werner Herzog. Herzog is a German filmmaker who is known for his unique and often controversial films. In a 2016 article, Garden & Gun writer Alex Pappademas explored Herzog's life and legacy, and the result is a fascinating and insightful look at one of the most important filmmakers of our time.

These are just a few of the many stories that Garden & Gun has told over the years. The magazine has been a chronicler of Southern culture for over a century, and its pages are filled with the stories of the people who have shaped the region. If you're looking for a magazine that celebrates the best of the South, then Garden & Gun is the magazine for you.
