The COST Action IS0605 ECON TEL (Economic Analysis of Telecommunication Networks and Services) was a four-year project that ran from 2007 to 2011. The project brought together researchers from 26 countries to work on a variety of topics related to the economic analysis of telecommunication networks and services. The project's main objectives were to:

  • Develop new theoretical and empirical models for the analysis of telecommunication networks and services.
  • Apply these models to the analysis of real-world telecommunication markets.
  • Disseminate the results of the project's research to scholars, policymakers, and industry practitioners.

The project's research activities were organized into four working groups:

  • Working Group 1: Economic Modeling of Telecommunication Networks and Services
  • Working Group 2: Empirical Analysis of Telecommunication Markets
  • Working Group 3: Policy Analysis of Telecommunication Regulation
  • Working Group 4: Dissemination and Outreach

  • Developed a new model for the analysis of the investment in telecommunication networks.

  • Applied this model to the analysis of the investment in broadband networks in the United States.

  • Working Group 2: Empirical Analysis of Telecommunication Markets

  • Conducted a survey of the telecommunication markets in the European Union.

  • Analyzed the data from the survey to identify the key factors that affect the prices of telecommunication services.

  • Developed a model to predict the prices of telecommunication services in the European Union.

  • Working Group 3: Policy Analysis of Telecommunication Regulation

  • Analyzed the effects of telecommunication regulation on the prices of telecommunication services.

  • Developed a set of recommendations for the regulation of telecommunication markets.

  • Working Group 4: Dissemination and Outreach

  • Organized a series of workshops and conferences on the economic analysis of telecommunication networks and services.

  • Published a number of articles in academic journals on the economic analysis of telecommunication networks and services.

  • Published a book on the economic analysis of telecommunication networks and services.

The COST Action IS0605 ECON TEL project was a successful four-year project that resulted in a number of important findings related to the economic analysis of telecommunication networks and services. The project's findings have been disseminated through a variety of channels and have been used to inform policy decisions in a number of countries.
