The history of the Wild West is often associated with the outlaws who roamed the lawless frontier of the United States. However, Canada also has a rich history of outlaws, many of whom have been forgotten over time.

One of the most notorious Canadian outlaws was Red Hamilton. Born in Ontario in 1850, Hamilton began his life of crime as a horse thief. He later became involved in robbery and murder, and was eventually sentenced to death. However, he escaped from prison and fled to the United States, where he continued his life of crime.

Hamilton was a master of disguise and had a reputation for being able to charm his way out of any situation. He was also known for his quick wit and sense of humor. Despite his criminal activities, he was often seen as a folk hero by the poor and downtrodden.

Eventually, Hamilton was captured and returned to Canada, where he was hanged in 1884. However, his legend lives on, and he remains one of the most well-known Canadian outlaws.

Other Forgotten Canadian Outlaws

Red Hamilton was not the only Canadian outlaw of note. Here are a few other forgotten outlaws who helped shape the country's history:

  • Bill Miner: Born in Ontario in 1847, Miner was a train robber who operated in the United States and Canada. He was known for his daring heists and his ability to escape from prison. He was eventually captured and sentenced to life in prison, where he died in 1913.
  • Jack the Moaner: Born in Quebec in 1854, Jack the Moaner was a highwayman who terrorized the countryside around Montreal. He was known for his distinctive moaning sound, which he would make while robbing his victims. He was eventually captured and hanged in 1883.
  • Pearl Hart: Born in Ontario in 1865, Pearl Hart was a stagecoach robber who became known as the "the Female Robin Hood." She was known for her beauty and her skill with a gun. She was eventually captured and sentenced to life in prison, where she died in 1928.
  • Billy the Kid: Although Billy the Kid is most associated with the American Wild West, he actually spent a significant amount of time in Canada. He was known for his skill with a gun and his involvement in the Lincoln County War. He was eventually killed by Sheriff Pat Garrett in 1881.

These are just a few of the many forgotten Canadian outlaws who helped shape the country's history. Their stories are full of adventure, violence, and intrigue, and they offer a fascinating glimpse into the country's past.
