Born in Yugoslavia in 1925, Ruth was a young Jewish woman when the Nazis invaded her country in 1941. Her family was torn apart, and Ruth was forced to flee for her life. She made her way to Italy, where she hoped to find refuge.

But Italy was also under Nazi occupation, and Jews were being hunted down and deported to concentration camps. Ruth knew that she couldn't survive as a Jew. So, she made the daring decision to disguise herself as a Catholic Italian.

Ruth's transformation was remarkable. She changed her name to Maria Bonafin, cut her hair short, and learned to speak Italian fluently. She also obtained false identity papers and a baptism certificate.

For four years, Ruth lived as Maria Bonafin. She worked as a maid, a nanny, and a teacher. She even fell in love with a young Italian man.

But Ruth's secret was always in danger of being exposed. She had to be constantly vigilant, watching her every word and action.

In 1944, the Allies invaded Italy and began to liberate the country from Nazi occupation. Ruth was overjoyed, but she knew that her own freedom was still precarious.

She decided to flee to Switzerland, where she hoped to find a new life.

Ruth's journey to Switzerland was fraught with danger. She had to cross the Swiss border illegally, and she was constantly worried about being caught.

But Ruth's luck held out. She made it to Switzerland safely and was eventually reunited with her family.

Ruth's story is a remarkable tale of courage, resilience, and survival. She faced unimaginable adversity, but she never gave up hope.
