Madam C.J. Walker

Madam C.J. Walker was born Sarah Breedlove in 1867 to former slaves in Louisiana. She was orphaned at the age of seven and went to live with her sister in Vicksburg, Mississippi. At the age of 14, she married Moses McWilliams and had a daughter, Lelia. After her husband died in 1887, Walker moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where she worked as a washerwoman.

In 1905, Walker invented a line of hair care products for black women. Her products were an instant success and she soon became a millionaire. Walker used her wealth to support a variety of causes, including the NAACP and Tuskegee Institute. She also established the Walker Female Seminary in Indianapolis, Indiana, which provided vocational training for black women.

Walker died in 1919 at the age of 51. She was one of the most successful black entrepreneurs in history and her legacy continues to inspire black women today.

Booker T. Washington

Booker T. Washington was born into slavery in 1856 in Virginia. After the Civil War, he attended Hampton Institute, a school for freed slaves. In 1881, he founded Tuskegee Institute in Alabama, which became one of the most important schools for black students in the United States.

Washington was a strong advocate for vocational education for black people. He believed that black people needed to learn skills that would allow them to become economically independent. Washington also advocated for black self-reliance and self-help.

Washington died in 1915 at the age of 59. He was one of the most influential black leaders of his time and his legacy continues to inspire black people today.

George Washington Carver

George Washington Carver was born into slavery in 1864 in Missouri. After the Civil War, he attended Iowa State College, where he studied agriculture. In 1896, he joined the faculty of Tuskegee Institute, where he became one of the most famous black scientists in history.

Carver was a brilliant inventor and he developed a number of new products from peanuts, soybeans, and sweet potatoes. He also developed new methods for farming and soil conservation.

Carver died in 1943 at the age of 78. He was one of the most important black scientists of his time and his legacy continues to inspire black scientists today.

Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey was born into poverty in 1954 in Mississippi. She was raised by her single mother and she faced a number of challenges growing up. However, Winfrey overcame these challenges and went on to become one of the most successful black entrepreneurs in history.

Winfrey began her career as a talk show host in 1983. Her show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, quickly became one of the most popular talk shows in the United States. Winfrey used her platform to promote a variety of causes, including education, self-help, and spirituality.

In addition to her talk show, Winfrey has also starred in a number of films and television shows. She has also launched a number of businesses, including a magazine, a television network, and a production company.
