Margaret Thatcher was born in Grantham, Lincolnshire, England, on October 13, 1925. Her father was a grocer and her mother was a seamstress. Thatcher was raised in a Methodist household and attended the local grammar school. She was a bright and ambitious student, and she excelled in mathematics and science. After graduating from high school, Thatcher won a scholarship to Somerville College, Oxford, where she studied chemistry.

Thatcher graduated from Oxford in 1947 and began working as a research chemist. She married Denis Thatcher, a businessman, in 1951. The couple had two children, Carol and Mark. Thatcher continued to work as a chemist until 1959, when she was elected to the House of Commons as the Conservative MP for Finchley.

Thatcher quickly rose through the ranks of the Conservative Party. She served as Secretary of State for Education and Science from 1970 to 1974, and as Secretary of State for the Environment from 1974 to 1979. In 1979, Thatcher became Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. She was the first woman to hold this office.

Thatcher's premiership was marked by a number of significant events. In 1982, she led the United Kingdom to victory in the Falklands War. She also implemented a number of economic reforms, which became known as "Thatcherism." These reforms included privatizing state-owned industries, reducing taxes, and cutting government spending. Thatcher's policies were controversial, but they helped to reduce inflation and unemployment in the United Kingdom.

Thatcher resigned as Prime Minister in 1990. She was succeeded by John Major. Thatcher remained active in public life after her retirement. She wrote several books and gave speeches around the world. She died in London on April 8, 2013, at the age of 87.

Margaret Thatcher was a complex and controversial figure. She was a strong and determined leader who had a profound impact on British politics. Her legacy is still being debated today.
