Early Life and Education

William Lyon Mackenzie King was born on December 17, 1874, in Kitchener, Ontario. His father, John King, was a lawyer and politician who served as the first mayor of Berlin (now Kitchener). His mother, Isabel Mackenzie, was the daughter of William Lyon Mackenzie, a Scottish-born rebel and politician who led the Upper Canada Rebellion of 1837.
