The history of the internet is often told as a story of male geniuses, but women have played a vital role in its development from the very beginning.

Here are some of their stories:

Ada Lovelace (1815-1852)

Ada Lovelace was an English mathematician and writer who is considered to be the first computer programmer. She was the daughter of the poet Lord Byron and the mathematician Anne Isabella Milbanke.

In 1843, Lovelace translated an article by the Italian mathematician Luigi Menabrea on the Analytical Engine, a mechanical computer designed by Charles Babbage. Lovelace's translation included her own extensive notes, which contained the first published description of a computer algorithm. This algorithm is considered to be the first computer program.

Hedy Lamarr was an Austrian-American actress and inventor. She is best known for her role in the 1933 film Ecstasy, which was one of the first films to feature a nude scene.

Lamarr was also a talented inventor. In 1942, she and composer George Antheil co-invented a frequency-hopping spread spectrum communication system, which is used today in modern wireless communications.

These are just a few of the many women who have made significant contributions to the development of the internet. Without their work, the internet as we know it would not exist.

The history of the internet is not just a story of male geniuses. It is also a story of women who have played a vital role in its development from the very beginning.

These women have made significant contributions to the field of computer science and have helped to shape the internet into the powerful tool that it is today.
