Grace Hopper was an American computer scientist and United States Navy rear admiral. She was a pioneer in the field of computer programming and is credited with inventing the first compiler, a program that translates human-readable code into machine-readable code.

Hopper also helped to develop the COBOL programming language, which is still used today in business applications.

Elizabeth Feinler (1931-2017)

Elizabeth Feinler was an American computer scientist who was one of the developers of the ARPANET, the precursor to the internet.

Feinler worked at the Stanford Research Institute in the 1960s, where she helped to develop the Network Control Program (NCP),which was the first software that allowed computers to communicate with each other over the ARPANET.

Radia Perlman (born 1951)

Radia Perlman is an American computer scientist who is known for her work on the Spanning Tree Protocol (STP),which is a network protocol that prevents loops in a network.

Perlman also helped to develop the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP),which is one of the core protocols of the internet.

Joan Clarke (1917-1996)

Joan Clarke was a British cryptanalyst who worked at Bletchley Park during World War II.

Clarke was one of the team of codebreakers who helped to break the German Enigma code, which was used by the German military to encrypt secret messages.

Hedy Lamarr (1914-2000)

Hedy Lamarr was an Austrian-American actress and inventor. She is best known for her role in the 1933 film Ecstasy, which was one of the first films to feature a nude scene.

Lamarr was also a talented inventor. In 1942, she and composer George Antheil co-invented a frequency-hopping spread spectrum communication system, which is used today in modern wireless communications.
