Anti-apartheid activism

Chaskalson became involved in the anti-apartheid movement in the early 1960s. He joined the Liberal Party of South Africa, and he represented anti-apartheid activists in court. In 1964, he was arrested and detained for his involvement in the anti-apartheid movement. He was released after a few months, but he continued to be harassed by the apartheid government.
