A Humble Beginning

Father Gift Pham was born in 1968 in Saigon, Vietnam. His parents were devout Catholics, and they instilled in him a deep love for God and a strong sense of social justice. At the age of 15, Gift's family fled Vietnam during the war and resettled in the United States. They settled in Houston, Texas, where Gift attended high school and college.

After graduating from college, Gift felt called to serve God and his community. He entered the seminary and was ordained a priest in 1996. He was assigned to a parish in Houston's Vietnamese community, where he quickly became known for his compassion, his dedication to the poor, and his unwavering faith.

A Beacon of Hope for the Poor

Father Gift's parish was located in one of the poorest neighborhoods in Houston. Many of the families in the community were struggling to make ends meet, and they faced a variety of challenges, including poverty, homelessness, and lack of access to healthcare. Father Gift was determined to help these families in need.

He started a food pantry at his parish, which provided groceries to hundreds of families each month. He also established a job training program to help people find work and get out of poverty. And he worked tirelessly to advocate for affordable housing and healthcare for the poor.

Father Gift's work was not limited to his parish. He also founded the Vietnamese Community of Houston, a non-profit organization that provides a variety of services to the Vietnamese community, including education, health care, and housing assistance.

A Voice for the Voiceless

Father Gift was not afraid to speak out against injustice and oppression. He often criticized the government for its policies that harmed the poor and marginalized. He also spoke out against discrimination and racism.

Father Gift's advocacy work made him a target for some people. He received death threats and was even attacked by a group of men. But he refused to be silenced. He continued to speak out for the voiceless, and he inspired others to do the same.

A Legacy of Love and Service

Father Gift Pham died in 2016 at the age of 48. But his legacy of love and service continues to live on. The Vietnamese Community of Houston continues to provide vital services to the Vietnamese community. And Father Gift's example continues to inspire others to serve the poor and marginalized.

Father Gift Pham was a true servant of God and a beacon of hope for the poor and marginalized. He lived his life with compassion, dedication, and unwavering faith. He made a difference in the lives of countless people, and his legacy will continue to inspire others for generations to come.
